ROBERT E. AKERS
Robert E. Akers is admitted to practice law in the states of West Virginia and Ohio and is also licensed to practice before United States Patent and Trademark Office. He has more than twenty years of experience both in practicing law and in business and engineering management. Robert’s primary practice area concerns advising entrepreneurs and businesses on issues related to intellectual property, entrepreneurship, business formation, business development and business governance. Robert has advised clients regarding intellectual property, performed prior art searches for patents and trademarks, filed applications to register patents, copyrights, and trademarks, and negotiated and prepared numerous legal documents concerning business transactions and governance.
Before becoming an attorney, Robert enjoyed a career in business management and engineering focused primarily on implementing and managing contracts to design and build factory automation machinery. Robert earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering and worked as a project manager, project engineer, and mechanical draftsman. In these capacities, Robert was responsible for designing and overseeing the assembly, installation and start-up of manufacturing equipment for a variety of industries including pharmaceuticals, food processing, personal care products, high-speed printing and chemical manufacturing.
Robert has extensive experience with the development of minerals and surface real property. He has examined and certified title to both surface tracts and mineral estates. Robert’s prior work in this capacity furthered development projects by facilitating the acquisition of property and auditing ownership prior to development. He has been involved with mergers and acquisitions of companies and property assets through due diligence projects.
Robert began his legal career examining title to real estate in many different counties in West Virginia and has trained and supervised abstractors and young attorneys. He has substantial record room experience and has led teams of attorneys and abstractors in the preparation of title opinions that certified title to surface and minerals.
